Where We Slept is our hotel roundup from our time on the road. We hope it helps budget travelers see how far their dollar can go--even though sometimes, it's not far enough!
In Chiang Mai, we found Thapae Gate to have the largest range of accommodations both inside and outside the old city.
We had hoped to stay at Chiang Mai Thai House on recommendation from other travelers (private room with fan and nice pool for 400B), but they were booked.
Thana Hotel had similar prices and facilities, though they were also booked.
Instead, we ended up at Sarah's Guesthouse the first night (not recommended) and Jimmy's Home Stay the other three. (Jimmy's has no online presence that I can find.) We paid 300B for an AC room though we probably would have been fine with fan. Jimmmy's was nothing special, but the owner was super nice and the price was right.
If you know when you're coming and want to stay at either of the recommended hotels above, we suggest booking ahead. Otherwise just walk around and find a place.
